Co Vás kdysi přivedlo k hokeji?
„Tak asi mě tam přivedli rodiče. V podstatě celá naše rodina byla sportovně založená, takže když mi bylo pět, šest let, tak se vlastně nabízela jediná varianta, a to byl hokej. V Havlíčkově Brodě těch sportů moc nebylo, zimák byl kousek od baráku. Jak říkám, všichni v rodině k tomu měli vztah, takže mě dali na hokej a jsem za to každopádně rád.“

Bylo od počátku Vaší kariéry jasné, že budete nastupovat v obraně?
„Já jsem o tom taky přemýšlel, protože teď mám syna ve věku deseti let kdy se řeší, jestli bude hrát v obraně nebo v útoku a sám jsem se zamýšlel nad tím, kde jsem já hrál. Ale je pravda, že jsem si nikdy nevzpomněl na moment, kdy bych hrál v útoku. Takže mě asi vždycky dávali do té obrany, co si tak pamatuju. Mamka mi taky říkala, že jsem vždycky hrál v obraně, takže u mě to asi bylo opravdu jasné.“

Hokejově jste vyrůstal v Havlíčkově Brodě, kde jste se také narodil. Jak vzpomínáte na působení v tamějším mládežnickém týmu?
„Mládež tam byla super. Já jsem se v tom městě narodil, na zimáku jsem od sedmi let trávil skoro každý den. Takže tam jsem byl nadšený, je to líheň dobrých hokejistů. Moc se mi to tam líbilo a bavilo mě to. Ale potom mě zaplaťpánbůh hokejové kroky odvedly někam jinam. V té době bych samozřejmě nejradši zůstal v Brodě, pamatuju si, že jsem svůj odchod na rok do Olomouce tenkrát i obrečel. Ale určitě jsem rád, že jsem zkusil něco jiného.“

Měl jste v této době nějaký svůj vzor? Někoho, kdo Vás inspiroval?
„Asi to nezní zrovna motivačně, ale musím říct, že moc těch vzorů jsem neměl. Když jsem byl malý, tak NHL skoro nikdo neznal. Co si tak pamatuju, tak v Brodě hrál Vlk, byl tam Richard Cachnin nebo bývalý obránce Suchý. Takže spíš ta starší jména a zejména hráči, kteří se pohybovali kolem Havlíčkova Brodu. Postupem času jsem chtěl samozřejmě být jako Ray Bourque, Jaromír Jágr, Wayne Gretzky a Mario Lemieux – to je jasný, ale to mi teda nevyšlo (směje se). Musím říct, že takhle na začátku jsem těch vzorů moc neměl, spíš jsem si ten hokej užíval a nesvazoval jsem se nějakou metou, které musím dosáhnout. V tom starším věku už jsem nějaké vysněné hráče a kluby měl, ale to už mi bylo třeba třináct, patnáct let.“

V roce 1997 si Vás vyhlédla pražská Slavia. Jak jste na přestup tenkrát reagoval?
„Já jsem rok předtím šel do Olomouce, kdy mě rodiče odvezli naším stříbrným Oltcitem před zimák. Tam jsem to obrečel, máma samozřejmě taky. Táta dělal hrdinu, ten byl v pohodě. Během roku tam jsem se posunul hrozně daleko, naučil jsem se o sebe trochu starat, bydlel jsem tam střídavě na intru nebo na zimáku. Takže ten rok mi dal určitě hodně. Potom když jsem přišel do Prahy, tak to už šlo tak nějak samo. Zaprvé jsem tady měl tátu i bráchu, mám tady všechny tety, takže kdykoliv mi pak teklo do bot a neměl jsem třeba v čem chodit, tak jsem si k nim donesl vyprat věci. Nebo když už jsem měl velký hlad, tak jsem se k nim dorazil najíst, takže to bylo celkem fajn. Ale jinak jsem tu od těch sedmnácti bydlel sám a byl jsem za to moc rád. Měl jsem tady byt kousek od zimáku, Slavia se o mě postarala luxusně co se týče bydlení a všeho dalšího. Takže jsem byl rád, že jsem tu mohl být vlastně sám, to jsem uvítal. Když na to tak vzpomínám, je to už hrozně dlouho. Pamatuju si na první dny, když jsem sem přišel podepsat smlouvu a potkal jsem tady třeba svého nejlepšího kamaráda Tomáše Divíška, kterého jsem znal jen rok předtím z nároďáku šestnáctek nebo sedmnáctek. No a tady v Praze jsem se ukotvil teda už dost dlouho – když si tom spočítám, tak je to i déle, než jsem si normálně myslel. Ale jsem spokojený a teď jsem vlastně Pražák, když to tak řeknu (směje se). Oni mi teď všichni budou říkat, že jsem ho*no Pražák, protože jsem z Brodu, ale už tady prostě žiju dost dlouho a cítím se tak.“

Napadlo by Vás tehdy, že v sešívaném dresu odehrajete přes 800 zápasů, stanete se ikonou klubu, a navíc budete kapitánem týmu?
„Nenapadlo, samozřejmě vůbec ne. V té době jsem byl rád za každý zápas a nebyl jsem typ, který by tohle nějak moc řešil. Hlavně tenkrát, když jsem byl mladý, to bylo jinak. Nechci, aby to vyznělo špatně, samozřejmě jsem chtěl mít úspěšnou kariéru, ale tehdy jsem byl v sedmnácti větší dítě, než jsou hráči v tom věku teď. Takže jsem si celou tu situaci stále nějak neuvědomoval. Teď když někdo hraje v sedmnácti nebo osmnácti extraligu tak je kolem toho velké halo, ale v té době nás ji hrálo docela dost a nikdo si toho v podstatě ani nevšiml. Takže jsem tyhle věci nějak neřešil a takový počet v budoucnu jsem nečekal, že tady strávím tolik let. Teď je to samozřejmě bonus a třeba bude můj dres jednou viset nad ledem spolu s Kácou (Petrem Kadlecem), Supem, Pepou Beránkem, Vašíčkem, Kolaříkem a Vláďou Růžičkou. Bylo by to fajn, uvidíme, jak dlouho budu hrát, ale určitě ještě nekončím. A jsem rozhodně hrdý, že tady můžu kapitánem být. Tady vždycky byli hráči, kteří k tomu klubu hodně patřili a byli s ním svázáni. Myslím si, že jsem jeden z nich a určitě je pro mě čest být kapitánem v takovém týmu. Teď sem přišel Marek Tomica, je tady Jarda Bednář, jsou tady hráči, kteří ke Slavii mají vztah – Jirka Doležal, Martin Ondráček a další. Takže pro mě jsou ty roky předtím i teď určitě super a tu práci dělám rád.“

V roce 2004 jste odehrál své jediné mistrovství světa. Jaké na něj máte vzpomínky?
„No, to bylo fajn. To byl úlet. Samozřejmě pokud se nezaobírám výsledkem – výsledek není úspěch, to beru. Ale pro mě byl osobní úspěch, že jsem se na to mistrovství dostal, i když to doprovázelo docela dost negativních vlivů. K tomu jsem se já ale nijak nevyjadřoval, nijak mě to nesvazovalo. Takže tohle mě nechávalo naprosto klidným. Naopak si myslím, že jsem ty výsledky v extralize nejen tenhle rok, ale i rok předtím měl, takže nějaká kritika na mě nebo že se po mně někdo vozil, to mě nezajímalo. Byl jsem za tu šanci rád a užíval jsem si každý den s nároďákem. Je to jeden z mých největších zážitků. Samozřejmě jsme to bohužel nevylepšili ziskem medaile, ale takový je prostě hokej. Šanci jsme měli, poprali jsme se o to a bylo to fantastické. Ještě k tomu mistrovství světa v Praze, kde je každý zápas vyprodaný, atmosféra skvělá… Bydleli jsme v hotelu v centru, jezdili jsme autobusem s doprovodem, hokejem žila celá země a já samozřejmě taky. Takže musím říct, že tohle byl jeden z největších zážitků. Přál bych to každému, ale asi se tam každý nedostane, no. Ale bylo to opravdu fajn a doteď na to strašně rád vzpomínám.“

O rok později jste poprvé zamířil za hranice naší země – konkrétně do Ruska, kde jste nastupoval v dresu Ak Bars Kazaň. Jak velká změna to pro Vás byla?
„Největší změna byla v ruštině. Tu jsem ve škole měl asi rok, pak se to změnilo a šel jsem na němčinu, kterou jsem tam samozřejmě využít nemohl – i když jsem ji stejně neuměl (směje se). Ale jako změna to byla. Já jsem na začátku byl dvacet let na poli s ovcema a koňma na vesnici u Havlíčkova Brodu, pak jsem byl rok v Olomouci, tři nebo čtyři roky v Praze a pak jsem šel do Ruska, že jo (směje se). V Rusku už jsem byl předtím s nároďákem a podobně, takže jsem věděl, kam jdu. Ale musím říct, že Rusko bylo fantastické, mně se to hrozně líbilo. Ať to byla Kazaň, ať to byl Jekatěrinburg ty roky potom, tak já tam byl hrozně spokojený. Ať to byla finanční stránka, ale i hokejová, zázemí, mně se tam prostě fakt líbilo. I ta ruština, i ty Rusky, i ti Rusáci byli fajn, bylo to prostě dobrý. Já jsem za tuhle cestu, kterou jsem se vydal, samozřejmě rád. Mohl jsem tam vydržet déle, ale každý udělá nějaké kroky, kvůli kterým to neklapne. Já taky, bohužel mi to nevyšlo, potom jsem měl nějaké zranění, nějak jsme se nedohodli. Takže potom jsem šel někam jinam. Ale musím říct, že jak tady byla jmenovaná ta Kazaň, tak to byl fakt úlet. Tam jsem si připadal jako v nebi – zázemí a všechno další bylo na špičkové úrovni, kterou jsem od té doby nezažil nikde, ani tady. “

V následující sezóně jste angažmá změnil hned třikrát – začínal jste ve švédské Skelleftee, poté jste oblékal dres Karpatu v sousedním Finsku a na závěr přišel velký návrat do Slavie. Byl pro Vás tento rok jeden z nejnáročnějších vůbec?
„Tak nemůžu říct nejnáročnější, já si myslím, že teď jsou náročnější sezóny, než byla tahle. Je to už pár let zpátky a v té době mi bylo jedno, jestli si sednu do letadla a poletím někam osm hodin nebo si sednu do auta a pojedu někam čtyři. No šel jsem do Švédska, tam jsem přišel jako střelec od modré čáry. Bohužel pár zápasů před začátkem sezóny jsem měl snad zlomený kotník. Pak jsem nastoupil do zápasu, samozřejmě za devět zápasů jsem nedal snad ani jeden gól… Ne snad, to jsem nedal. Na 99 % jsem ho nedal. Takže z obávaného střelce od modré se asi v tu chvíli stal hráč, kterého nikdo nepotřeboval, což se pochopitelně nabízelo. Takže jsem šel do Finska, to jsem si náramně užil. Potkal jsem tam třeba Broše ze Sparty, byl tam Kratina, takže naštěstí jsem tam tu jazykovou bariéru takovou neměl, protože jsem s nimi trávil dost času. Pak se tam nějak kolem Vánoc nahrnuli další cizinci, takže už jsme se zase střídali, už jsem nebyl v takovém herním vytížení. Vláďa Růžička na Slavii o mě projevil zájem, takže jsem nakonec zvedl kotvy potřetí, zabalil jsem si vercajk a vyrazil jsem zpátky domů. Bylo to naštěstí domů na Slavii, takže to bylo fajn, a vůbec jsem to nějak neprožíval v té době. Prostě mi to nevyšlo – samozřejmě mě s*alo, že to zase neklaplo, ale člověk nahází věci do jedné tašky a jede. Připadal jsem si teda fakt jako cirkusák, ale nějak mě to netrápilo. Já jsem prostě tyhle situace moc neprožíval. Sbalil jsem si a šel jsem dál, měl jsem naštěstí aspoň vždycky kam jít, nedostal jsem se do situace, že mě někde někdo vyhodil a najednou jsem neměl práci. To by samozřejmě bylo mnohem nepříjemnější. Takhle jsem si to v hlavě přehodil, udělal jsem si jmenovky na kufr a letěl jsem dál. Takže tenhle rok byl a byl zakončený hlavně tou odměnou, že jsem šel na Slavii a najednou prásk, my jsme měli druhý titul. To bylo naprosto skvělé, takže sezóna nakonec vyšla a šlo se po sezóně pít a nepřemýšlel jsem nad tím, že jsem vlastně byl ve Finsku, ve Švédsku a že jsem nalétal v letadle víc než letušky u ČSA. Takže sezónu jsem si užil a po ní jsem si to užil taky.“

Během dalších let jste si vyzkoušel také hokej v Itálii, Rakousku nebo na Slovensku. Která část celé Vaší zahraniční kariéry Vám dala nejvíc? A kde se Vám hrálo nejhůř?
„Nejvíc mi dala ta Itálie. Tam jsem trávil čas na sjezdovce, takže jsem zlepšil svůj lyžařský styl (směje se). No a nejmíň mi dalo Slovensko, ti mi spíš naopak vzali, protože jsem tam byl zadarmo a nezaplatili mě. Takže na Slovensko nevzpomínám vůbec moc rád a nějak mě neláká jet se tam podívat ani na dovolenou, protože mi to tak nějak znechutili. Rakousko bylo fajn, v Grazu. Tam se mi líbil ten hokej – takový jednoduchý, rychlý, ze strany na stranu. Byli tam Kanaďani, hrálo se hodně do těla, což mě samozřejmě moc nevyhovovalo, ale když člověk stihne uhnout a rozehrát, tak z toho má dobrý pocit. Takže tam se mi líbilo, tam to bylo taky super. Ale jinak když se mě někdo ptá na to, kde jsem si to nejvíc užil, tak ta Itálie byla asi nejlepší. Odjel jsem tam s rodinkou, měl jsem klid, mohl jsem lyžovat, jezdil jsem se podívat na jezera… Tak co tady člověk vidí, špinavou Vltavu, když chci někam jet, tak stejně špinavé Slapy nebo Orlík a není to úplně fajn. Tam v Itálii se člověk podívá, užije si jiný život. Těch věcí jsem tam viděl docela dost, teď bych si to asi taky užil, v té době jsem to ale bral nějak automaticky. Takže Itálie dobrá, Rakousko skvělé, Slovensko bych nejradši vymazal, ale nevím, jak to z té hlavy dostat. Slovensko asi… Ne asi, suverénně nejhorší. “

Kdybyste se mohl vrátit v čase a změnit jedno rozhodnutí v průběhu své hokejové cesty, které by to bylo a proč?
„Jedno rozhodnutí? Já asi nelituju žádného. Dostal jsem samozřejmě pár kopanců, párkrát jsem řekl něco, co jsem asi neměl, ale asi nelituju vůbec ničeho. Naopak jsem spokojený, že jsem si prožil dost těchhle věcí, a i když mi něco nevyšlo, tak aspoň nebudu sedět doma za pět let a budu si říkat „Já jsem ty v*le blbec, že jsem nešel zkusit tu Itálii, KHL, Finsko, Švédsko, cokoliv“. To by mě určitě s*alo víc, než když jsem někam šel a tam to neklaplo. Takže nemám moc věcí, ale co bych opravdu vypíchnul, je angažmá na Slovensku. Musím říct, že to byla taková kaňka, kterou si nesu v srdci doteď. Ani halušky nejím od té doby, protože mě to Slovensko prostě vždycky ubíjí a když to vidím na jídelním lístku, tak si vždycky vzpomenu na tu Skalici a jsem z toho otrávený. Takže Slovensko ne.“

Zaznamenal jste kauzu Jiřího Tlustého, který se pro podcast ‚Bomby k tyči‘ rozpovídal o zážitcích z mistrovství světa 2013?
„Jasně. Strávil jsem u toho jednu cestu v autobuse ze zápasu a ohromně mě to pobavilo. Tlusťocha znám i z osobního života, takže mu důvěřuju a musím s ním teda i docela souhlasit. Jeho slovům absolutně věřím a jak říkám, souhlasím s ním. Vím, že jsem měl taky pár takových neshod s trenérem a musím říct, že Jirkovi prostě věřím a že si myslím, že to fakt takhle bylo. A musím ho v tom podpořit, protože věřím, že to teď bude mít těžké. Všichni se do něj budou obouvat a podobně, ale myslím, že on to nějak ustojí a v klidu si bude dělat tu svoji dobrou práci komentátora a bude se motat kolem hokeje. Takže jeho to asi moc nezasáhne. Akorát to tak prostě je, když člověk někde řekne pravdu v článku, tak asi ne každý to zkousne a musí se k tomu vyjádřit. Takže Tlusťochovi držím palce a podle mě měl pravdu.“

Pojďme se vrátit ke Slavii, kde aktuálně působíte. S klubem jste v minulosti získal hned dva extraligové tituly. Jde o nejlepší roky Vaší kariéry?
„Já myslím, že na každém roku mojí kariéry bych něco našel. Ale musím říct, že ty tituly jsou asi nejlepší věc, protože to je vždycky závěr sezóny, kterého chce člověk dosáhnout. Musím říct, že jsem za ně opravdu rád. Fajn byla i ta stříbrná umístění, i ty ostatní sezóny byly samozřejmě dobré, ale člověk hraje kvůli pocitu vítězství. Takže dvě sezóny, které jsem dotáhl do absolutního vrcholu byly skvělé a strašně rád na ně vzpomínám. Byl bych rád, kdyby se tam Slavia někdy vrátila a zažívala tyhle vrcholové pocity, kdy je klub tím nejlepším z nejlepších.“

Jak jste v roce 2015 skousával sestup sešívaných do druhé nejvyšší soutěže po dlouhých 21 letech v extralize?
„No ještě jsem to nepřežvýkal. Musím říct, že mě to se*e doteď. Tyhle momenty rozhodně nejsou věci, na které člověk rád vzpomíná, ale bohužel mu to vždycky někdo připomene nebo si na to vzpomene sám. Takže tohle bych z paměti taky určitě vymazal, ale bohužel to nejde a teď se můžu maximálně snažit vrátit Slavii tam, kde byla. Proto se snažím pro ten klub udělat maximum a odehrát co nejlepší sezóny, zápasy, prostě být platným článkem toho týmu. Ale tohle jsem určitě skousával blbě, já si vzpomínám, že dvakrát v kariéře jsem slyšel ticho v hale. Jednou to bylo na mistrovství světa, když jsme vypadli a podruhé tady na Slavii. Tady to ticho teda bylo kratší, protože pak nám lidi začali nadávat, na tom MS potom odešli. Každopádně musím říct, že to fakt nebyl fajn zážitek a že se na tohle vzpomíná úplně na ho*no. Pamatuju si, že se tady pak všem rozdávala nějaká kytka a tak dál, stálo to prostě za prd. Lidi zklamaný, všichni nas*aný – hráči, vedení, trenéři, všichni byli smutný a zaskočený. Ale bohužel, taková byla situace, tak to prostě je a teď se máme kam vracet a bojovat o tu extraligu.“

HCS značně posílila a očekávání jsou tak velká. Jaké máte plány pro letošní ročník?
„Plány jsou pořád stejné – postoupit, vyhrát, vítězit, být první. Jednoduché. Vyhrát každý zápas, co jde, hrát dobrý hokej, aby přicházeli fanoušci a naše výkony se jim líbily, abychom nedělali ostudu Slavii a jeden druhému. Uvidíme, jaká bude realita. Každopádně posily jsou, jména v týmu taky, je dobrá parta v šatně a uvidíme, bohužel se hokej nehraje jenom v šatně, ale hlavně na ledě. Určitě se budeme snažit předvést co nejlepší výkony, ale jak říkám, bude to těžké. Nejsme asi jediný tým v první lize, který posílil – když se podíváme na Moravu nebo kamkoliv jinde, tak ty týmy jsou taky našlapané a nikdo sem nepřijede na zimák na Slavii s prstem v zadku a neřekne si, že chce tady prohrát, že jo. Každý sem přijede a bude nás chtít porazit, takže my holt musíme být vždycky lepší a mít prostě navrch. Uvidíme, jak to bude, realita samozřejmě může být jiná, což nikdo nechce. Takže se budeme snažit vyhrát a odmakat to. Já osobně ale Slavii chválím, myslím, že jdeme dobrým směrem. Musíme hlavně přilákat lidi, i když bohužel v aktuální situaci, kdy je všechno včetně návštěvnosti osekané… Já osobně momentálně (k 9.9., pozn. autora) ani nevím, kolik sem vlastně může přijít lidí na zápas. Někdo říká tisíc, někdo 750, tak uvidíme. Každopádně ať už sem přijde jakýkoliv počet, tak chceme, aby ti diváci byli spokojení, že viděli Slavii, která bojovala srdcem a takhle se chceme prezentovat.“

Zůstalo Vám i po příchodu posil jako Jaroslav Bednář nebo Petr Kafka výsadní postavení v kabině? Nebo jste naopak rád, že Vám zkušení kolegové s vedením mladších hráčů pomohou?
„Je pravda, že na tuhle situaci tam nejsem vůbec sám. Kluci pomůžou, hlavně Bedýnka (Jaroslav Bednář), ten pomáhá (směje se). Ta kabina celkově musí táhnout za jeden provaz a mít jasné cíle. Je fajn, že jeden hráč je orazítkován tím céčkem, asi ke mně mají kluci respekt, ale stejně musí všichni chtít. Takže tam jde prostě o to, jak je nastavená ta celá šatna. Musím říct, že jsou tu kluci jako Bedýnka, Ďolík (Jiří Doležal) a další, kteří jsou starší a zkušenější, držíme spolu a snažíme se ty ostatní hráče směřovat. Ale nejdůležitější je to, aby oni sami chtěli a věřili té naší vizi a zkušenostem, ať už desetiletým nebo dvacetiletým… Snažíme se jim prostě pomoct a chce to táhnout za jeden provaz, aby ti kluci měli všichni stejný cíl. Takže Bedýnka i Kafoun a samozřejmě i ti ostatní pomáhají, něco mladším hráčům říkají a snaží se, aby si z toho něco vzali.“

Jaký máte názor na zimní stadion a jeho zázemí?
„Beru, že jsou i lepší haly, to samozřejmě. Ale jsou i horší. Slavia je moje srdcová záležitost, takže já k tomu neřeknu nic špatného – mně se tady líbí i ty betonové schody, líbí se mi tady ta zima v zimě a líbí se mi tady úplně všechno. Takže já jsem s tím spokojený, ale naprosto chápu že lidi, co chodili dřív do O2 Arény a pak se vrátili zpět, nejsou zrovna nadšení. Ale jinak jsem s halou spokojený, nádherný led, je to prostě fajn. Hlavně se tu vždycky vytvořila skvělá atmosféra a mnohdy byla i lepší než v té O2 Aréně. Samozřejmě když do O2 přišlo 17 tisíc lidí, tak to bylo pochopitelně lepší tam, to si nemusíme nic nalhávat. Ale pamatuju si na doby, kdy se tu ještě hrála i ta extraliga, a to sem chodil plný dům, lidi tady lezli málem po stropě a viseli všude možně, aby viděli, co tady předvádíme. Za plexiskly stály tři řady, nahoře stály čtyři řady, tlačila se hlava na hlavu a byla tady atmosféra fajn. Atmosféru dělají diváci, ty samozřejmě musejí přilákat právě hokejisti, ti hráči na ledě. Co se týče zázemí, tak šatna A-týmu je fajn. Je tam rehabilitace – mohla by být lepší, pochopitelně, ale taky by nemusela být žádná. Takže je to asi dostačující k tomu, co tady hrajeme. Samozřejmě vždycky bude co zlepšovat, každý má co zlepšovat. I tady jsou věci, které by se vylepšit daly, pomalu se na tom pracuje. Na ledě je nový znak, připravily se nové velké televize, aby se mohly ty zaplněné tribuny na naše krásné akce znovu a znovu dívat… (směje se). Takže já jsem tady spokojený a neodpovím jinak, než že je to dobré.“

Co říkáte na slávistické fanoušky?
„Jsou skvělí. Já chápu, že to mají strašně moc těžké, hlavně kotel. Chodí málo lidí, málo se jich stará o věci okolo, ale taková je situace. Já jsem samozřejmě rád za každého diváka, který na ten zimák vůbec přijde, protože vím, že ne vždycky se na to dá stoprocentně koukat. Není tu ani žádné extra velké teplo, takže vím, že tu ten divák většinou spíš trpí, protože ho málokdy zahřejeme svým výkonem. Ale jinak jsem s diváky spokojený. Jsem rád, že chodí a že si sem tu cestu najdou a stráví s námi každý zápas, co odehrajeme.
